LiveAgeWell in Edgewater (LiveAgeWell) is an independent group of residents of the Edgewater Beach Apartments (EBA), Chicago, that focuses on promoting living long and well in an intergenerational community.* We are focused on supporting senior residents through learning, activities, and meaningful engagement within our building, not only between seniors but intergenerationally, and beyond the EBA to the larger community. Toward that end, we sponsor free programs, offer the opportunity to EBA residents to have and/or be a buddy (a Good Neighbor), and provide through our website links to local and national services for seniors, and more.
*LiveAgeWell has no legal relationship to or sponsorship by the Edgewater Beach Apartments Corporation (EBAC), which in no way is responsible or liable for our initiatives.
We welcome all users to this website, but membership in LiveAgeWell is limited to residents of the EBA. If you are an EBA resident and not a member of our group, you can sign up by going to the Forms section of this website. If you are already a member, we’re delighted that you’ve joined LiveAgeWell!
In 2023 LiveAgeWell joined the Chicago Area Villages Collaborative (we are the first "Vertical Village" to be included). Comprising chapters organized according to the city's neighborhoods and suburbs, the Villages is a collaborative network of people and community offering social connection, learning, support through life transitions, and ways to finding purpose in one's senior years.
LiveAgeWell's association with Chicago Area Villages allows us to share programming and to engage with and advocate for the many concerns posed by aging in place.
We currently have five committees, any of which will welcome your participation and ideas:
Good Neighbor Initiative (GNI) Committee
Having created GNI, a buddy system exclusively for EBA residents, this committee maintains a list of people who wish to have a GNI partner and/or to serve as a GNI partner. Committee members also review and update participants in LiveAgeWell about safety concerns and emergency medical care.
Marketing Committee
The focus of the Marketing Committee of LiveAgeWell in Edgewater is to attract new members and retain current members. The committee promotes LiveAgeWell's programs and initiatives within and beyond our building. Committee members create texts and visual materials that can be displayed, distributed, and sent digitally to our members and prospective audiences.
Newsletter Committee
LiveAgeWell Newsletter is an independent, resident-created, online publication at the EBA promoting wellness and connection. It comes out four times a year and focuses on supporting residents, both younger and older, by providing learning opportunities, activities, and meaningful engagement in our building and the larger community. Each issue includes articles on relevant topics for seniors, items of interest on our website, descriptions of initiatives like our buddy system (Good Neighbor Initiative, or GNI), features on LiveAgeWell members engaged in meaningful activities relevant to our building and community, opportunities for activist engagement with issues related to aging, and more. Committee members help identify possible topics and then, depending on their interest and availability, draft the articles and help with their design and layout.
Program Committee
The Program Committee considers possible topics for programs and identifies appropriate speakers to present them. It seeks to offer a variety of information on subjects of interest and relevant to seniors and younger EBA residents alike. Working closely with Chicago Area Villages Collaborative, the committee helps to organize monthly programs on Zoom and in-person programs for EBAers, such as online literacy training and a summer gathering in the EBA garden. Members plan and promote the programs and arrange for refreshments, etc., when appropriate.
Website Committee
LiveAgeWell’s website offers information about our initiatives and activities, as well as about local, national, and international resources relevant to aging; recommendations of reading materials, movies, travel, etc.; a place to share ideas and experiences, and more. One does not have to be a “techie” to join this committee, although we welcome all who are! Our “techies” supervise and improve the mechanics of LiveAgeWell’s website, making the information it contains easy to access and explore. Other committee members do the research necessary to build the website’s content, deepening current sections and/or introducing new areas. Committee members regularly update the time-based information the website provides.
If you are interested in joining one or more of our committees, indicate that on the Membership form (see Forms) or contact the committee chair listed below.
